There is no statutory minimum wage for expatriate workers in private sector restaurant jobs in the UAE as of 2026. However, for UAE nationals, the minimum basic salary is AED 12,000 per month under Emiratisation rules. All salaries, typically AED 1,500 to AED 3,000 for entry-level waiters plus tips and service charge, must be stated in MOHRE-approved contracts and paid monthly via the Wage Protection System.
Q What work visa do foreigners need for restaurant jobs in UAE in 2026?
Foreigners require an employer-sponsored employment residence visa valid for 2 or 3 years, starting with a 60-day work entry permit from MOHRE. The process includes medical fitness test (AED 370 fee), security clearance, and Emirates ID application (AED 100-370). Employers cover all costs exceeding AED 5,000 total.
Q What education or experience is required for chef jobs in UAE restaurants?
For the 'cook' profession (ISCO code 5120), MOHRE requires completion of high school education and minimum 2 years of relevant experience for work permit approval. Entry-level kitchen helpers need no formal education but 1 year experience. Applications are processed via MOHRE-approved typing centers for AED 100-200 fee.
Q What documents do I need to apply for a restaurant job work permit in UAE?
Required documents include passport copy valid for 6 months, 4 passport photos, employer's commercial license and establishment card, MOHRE-approved employment contract, medical fitness certificate, and AED 200-500 title deed insurance. Submit via Tasheel or MOHRE app; processing takes 5 working days. Original degree attestation needed for skilled roles like chef.
