Truck Driver

As per the Ministry of Labour, the minimum wage for Omani nationals in unskilled roles including drivers is OMR 400 per month as of January 2026. This applies to those with secondary school certificate or below and excludes allowances. Overtime is paid at 125% of hourly rate beyond 48 hours per week.

Expatriates require a work permit from the Ministry of Labour valid for 2 years, costing OMR 100 for issuance, plus a residency visa from Royal Oman Police costing OMR 20. A job offer from an approved sponsor and medical fitness certificate are mandatory. Applications are processed via MOL e-services within 5 working days.

No formal education is required for light vehicle driver jobs, but a valid Category 3 driving license and at least 1 year of experience are mandatory as per Royal Oman Police regulations effective 2026. Heavy vehicle drivers need Category 4 or 5 license with 2 years experience. Omanisation quota requires 100% Omani drivers in some transport firms.

Required documents include a copy of passport or ID, valid driving license, medical fitness report, and employment contract, submitted via Ministry of Labour's e-services portal. For Omanis, National ID and social insurance number are essential. Processing takes 3-7 days with no application fee.
