As per the Ministry of Manpower, under the Progressive Wage Model effective from 1 January 2025, new entrant private hire car drivers must receive at least SGD 1,700 per month in 2026. Experienced drivers with 4 or more years receive at least SGD 2,100 per month. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly basic rate.

The Ministry of Manpower sets the S Pass minimum qualifying salary at SGD 3,500 per month for applicants under 40 years old in the services sector, including drivers, as of 1 January 2026. For those 40 and above, it is SGD 4,100 per month. Fixed monthly salaries below this are not eligible.

According to the Ministry of Manpower, for Work Permit holders in the transport sector earning SGD 2,000 to SGD 2,999 per month, the monthly levy is SGD 650 as of 2026. Employers pay this levy, deducted from the quota allowance. Levies range from SGD 450 to SGD 950 based on salary tiers.

The Land Transport Authority requires a valid Class 4B driving licence and a 5-year Public Service Vehicle Driver's Vocational Licence (PDVL) for taxi drivers. Applicants must be at least 30 years old, pass a medical exam, and have no more than 12 demerit points. No formal education is required beyond basic literacy in English.
