Foreigners require a Work Permit (WP) issued by MOM for low-skilled security guard roles, with a minimum qualifying salary of S$3,000 per month under the sector's Progressive Wage Model as of 2026. Employers must apply via the WP Online system, and workers from approved source countries like Malaysia, China, or India are eligible, subject to a S$500 monthly levy. S Pass is possible for mid-skilled guards earning at least S$3,150.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, Singapore Citizens/PRs or valid work pass holders, with no pending criminal charges or history of specific offences like violence or drug abuse. They need to pass the WSQ Certificate in Security Systems Framework (Basic) course costing around S$240 and be medically fit. Literacy in English is required for guards without higher qualifications.

Submit NRIC/passport, recent photo, WSQ Security certificate, medical report from registered doctor, and employment history for the Security Officer Licence application via the PLRD Online Portal, with a S$120 fee valid for 2 years as of 2026. For jobs, provide resume, licence number, and bank details for payroll. Employers verify via MOM's myMOM Portal.
