MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To identify and enumerate the responsibilities of Plumber under the direct supervision of the Director of Engineering and /or Operations Manager.

Job Summary:
• Assembles, installs, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of steam, heating, cooling, pneumatic, water, and drainage systems.
• Other duties may be assigned requiring skills of a like or less demanding nature.
• Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequences of installations.
• Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
• Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
• Cuts opening in walls and floor to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
• Cuts and threads pipe.
• Bends pipe to required angel by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.
• Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
• Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, caulks joints, Victaulic connectors, welding, soldering, brazing or other methods as prescribes by supervision or engineering instruction.
• Fills pipe system with steam, water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
• Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. Also is responsible for steam systems equipment such as steam traps, pressure regulators, steam station valves, and other equipment as required
• Becomes familiar with hospital medical gas system including but not limited to compressed air, vacuum, oxygen and nitrous oxide. Can operate these systems as well as maintain and troubleshoot.
• Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
• Welds holding fixtures to steel structural members. Installs pipe hangers and supports.
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment. Maintains tools and equipment in good working conditions
• Receives company provided training concerning, but not limited to, Lock Out Tag Out, Confined space Entry, Blood Borne Pathogen, Safety, Accident Reporting and Prevention, etc. Can effectively apply this training during working hours as applicable. Reports unsafe working conditions to the appropriate level as required.
• Completes required documentation for the hospital in a timely manner. Documentation is legible and accurate to the best of the employee's knowledge.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education
• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to work in a union environment.
• Computer skills are required
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Knowledge of hospital’s management and utility systems management
• Knowledge, understanding and the ability to research, read, comprehend and apply applicable codes and ordinances is required.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications
• Experience of not less than three (3) years working as a plumber in industry is also required with five (5) years’ experience preferred.
• Additional languages preferred

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation
• Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of hire)
• Assault Response Competency (ARC) (required within 30 days of hire)
