The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.

SUMMARY

This position requires a versatile, hands-on professional with strong experience in plumbing who consistently demonstrates the CORE Values of the State Fair of Texas. The primary focus of this role is to provide in-house plumbing maintenance and repair support, including installation, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of water, sewer, and gas systems. In addition, this position will support related facility needs, including coordination with other trades, emergency repairs, landscaping support, and Fair setup activities.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:
• Lead and perform all plumbing-related work, including installation, repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of plumbing systems.
• Serve as the primary plumbing authority on capital projects, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Lead HVAC setup and preventive maintenance tasks on portable SFOT Booths.
• Establish and maintain a proactive preventive maintenance program for plumbing systems.
• Lead Fair setup/teardown tasks, as assigned.
• Lead and supervise a small team of plumbers, providing guidance, training and oversight.
• Establish and maintain “Safety First” workplace.
• Maintain plumbing systems during Fair Operation.
• Coordinates all plumbing permitting needs.
• Provide emergency support on plumbing systems after hours.
• Establish service contracts and partners in key areas of maintenance operation.
• Support landscaping and irrigation projects, as assigned.
• Support SFT special events/activities, as assigned.
• Perform all other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
• Proficiency in Office 365, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, etc.
• Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing Code and safety guidelines.
• Knowledge of welding procedures and guidelines.
• Knowledge of plumbing hand tools and ability to use them.
• Pertinent Federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
• Principles and procedures of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Policies and procedures of assigned department.

Ability to:
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Learn programs and services related to assigned department.
• Manage multiple projects and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Prioritize projects and apply strong problem‐solving skills.
• Create and maintain utility maps.
• Perform mathematical computations and basic accounting tasks.

EXPERIENCE and TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Preferred Education and/or Experience:
• Experience in commercial and residential plumbing.
• Must possess and maintain a Texas Master Plumbing License
• Five or more years of experience in similar role.
• Driver’s license is required.
• Forklift experience and certification is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:
• Office and field environment; exposure to computer screens; maintenance projects/work areas, inclement weather; slippery, uneven surfaces.
• Work closely with others.
• Fairgrounds environment; exposure to animals, dirt and dust.
• The State Fair of Texas is a drug free workplace.
• Subject to working overtime, weekends, twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call out and holidays.

Physical Conditions:
• Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for.
• Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
• Moving short and long distances across the Fairgrounds.
• Verbally communicate with both internal and external contacts.
• Ability to push, pull, reach, stoop, lift light objects as needed.
