ELECTRICIAN - TECHNICAL SUPPORT - Urgently needed

As per the Department of Employment and Labour, the national minimum wage applicable to electricians is R31.71 per hour effective 1 March 2026. For a standard 45-hour week over 4 weeks, this equates to R5,707 per month before deductions. Sectoral agreements like MEIBC set higher minima at R28,450 per month for artisan electricians.

Foreign heavy current electricians with a relevant degree or trade qualification qualify for the Critical Skills Work Visa as listed on the 2023 updated list still valid in 2026. No labour market test required; submit SAQA-evaluated qualifications, proof of registration, and job offer to VFS Global. Visa valid for 5 years and leads to permanent residency.

Candidates need a National Certificate N2 in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), 24 months practical workplace experience verified by logbook, and pass the phase test plus final trade test. Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science allows entry into apprenticeship programmes lasting 36 months. Trade Test Certificate issued upon passing.

Submit certified copy of ID or passport, N2/N3 Electrical Engineering certificates, DLT 01 application form, employer affidavit confirming 24 months experience, and training logbook with 120 tasks signed off. Applications accepted at 44 accredited test centres nationwide for R2,500 fee. Processing takes 4-6 weeks.
