Job Description
Title: Team Member
Reporting to: Senior Team Lead
Industry: Fast-Casual Restaurant
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Compensation Plan: starting $21/hour + benefit coverage + access to a large mentor network.

Overview
Thank you for considering applying for our Team Member role. Our team members are vital to our success because they interact with our guests more than anyone in our company. With this in mind, we believe we must create an exceptional company culture for our team members.

Our recruiting process is likely different from any other process you’ve experienced before - even this job description will read differently. This is a testament to how we want to operate; doing things that are progressive, fun, and, we think, better.

We’re a fast-growing company, we’re on track to open four corporate locations in our first 15 months of operation, which is a very uncommon accomplishment in our industry. We’ll enter the US market in 2024 and continue to grow from there to embark on our vision to have the world celebrate the flavours and culture of Peru.

Growth Stories & Opportunities
The growth of our team members is very meaningful to us. Our starting income (notice how we didn’t say minimum wage) is $2`/hour, however, most team members make $21.25/hour (or even $22 or $24/hour). You could also become like one of our team members who went from $19/hour to $80,000/year within a year and a half.

What is Brasa Peruvian Kitchen?

Nike popularized running shoes. Starbucks did the same with Italian coffee. We want to become the brand that’s synonymous with the flavours and culture of Peru.

Brasa Peruvian Kitchen is a fast-casual restaurant serving everyday foods like salads and warm bowls with real Peruvian flavours.

Our goals are ambitious and we’re building an employee-first company culture.

Our goal is to open 100 locations by 2029 and we need you to help us get there.

Our Vision (What’s Our Work): To introduce the world to the flavours of Peru and the country’s majestic culture.

Our Mission (Why Do We Work): To build a company that the world needs more of. One where everyday people are empowered to make great money, achieve career growth, and help close the income inequality gap.

Our Values (How We Work):
• Team Member Obsessed
• Experience Driven
• Infinite Learners and Curiosity
• Performance and Responsibility

How We're Different
• We donate $10,000 for every store that we open to Cuso International (an Ottawa-based not-for-profit) who deploy the funds to urban farming projects in Peru and help reduce food insecurity in the country.
• We will review compensation several times per year. This is a proactive approach to a topic that most companies shy away from. Our training program will include a module that educates you on how to successfully ask for a raise at Brasa (or anywhere, really).
• Our starting income (another phrase for minimum wage) for Team Members starts at $21/hour. We believe there are two types of companies: ones that try to pay their employees less and ones that try to pay them more. We’ll be the latter. This higher wage will help us recruit high-calibre people to join our team.
• We pay for breaks. We do not deduct time from your cheque when taking breaks.
• Team Members will receive one complimentary meal on days that they are working.
• We don’t believe in paying bonuses when a company achieves a goal that is often paid months later. Instead, we’re going to give higher hourly wages and salaries from day one and hire ambitious team members who have enough pride to always want to achieve their goals. Plus, we think this is better for you when dealing with lenders like a bank (they don’t care about potential bonuses or commissions).
• Our goal is to hear you say, “I’ve never worked in a company like Brasa before.” We’re very genuine about this goal and it’s not just a platitude.

The Traits and Behaviours

Below is a description of the type of people we’re looking to work closely with:
• You can work fast. Brasa is a fast-paced environment.
• A genuine desire to work in a restaurant environment and learn about the industry to advance your own career.
• Someone can share feedback with you directly, yet respectfully, and you won’t be offended because you know the feedback is coming from a good place.
• You have a non-work related hobby or interest that lights you up when describing it.
• You’re calm.
• Kind & uplifting. We will never hire cruel people.
• Incredible work ethic.
• You’re obsessed with your own education.
• Curious to learn from other industries and professionals.
• You have a plan for yourself which includes big goals and dreams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Restaurant Jobs in Canada

Q What is the minimum wage for restaurant servers in Ontario in 2026?
As per the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, the general minimum wage, applicable to restaurant servers, is $18.90 per hour effective October 1, 2026. Servers must be paid this rate for all hours worked, with tips considered additional income not offsetting the minimum. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate after 44 hours per week.
Q What is the average hourly wage range for cooks in restaurants across Canada in 2026?
According to Job Bank, Government of Canada, restaurant cooks (NOC 63200) earn low wages of $16.75 per hour, median $20.25 per hour, and high wages of $28.50 per hour nationally in 2026. These figures are based on recent labour market data adjusted for inflation. Entry-level cooks start near the low end with experience pushing towards median or higher.
Q What work permit is required for a foreigner to work as a restaurant server in Canada in 2026?
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requires most foreign restaurant servers to obtain an employer-specific work permit, which needs a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from the employer first. The application fee is $155 CAD per person, with processing times averaging 14 weeks in 2026. Open work permits are rare for this occupation unless under specific programs like International Experience Canada.
Q What education or experience is needed for entry-level restaurant server jobs in Canada?
Job Bank, Government of Canada, indicates no formal education is required for restaurant servers (NOC 65200), with most positions needing less than secondary school and on-the-job training. Previous customer service experience of 6-12 months is typically preferred but not mandatory for entry-level roles. A high school diploma may be an asset in urban areas.
